Why You Should Never Ask A Graphic Designer For Help

Design-based humour has never been so funny. A must read for any graphic designer. Essentially she just wants a poster about her missing cat. Sadly she asked the wrong designer.

Yeah, Thats Not What I Was Looking For At All.

"So You Need A Typeface" - A Fresh Look at Typeface Selection

Upon the open waves of the sea that is the internet you occasionally come across a gem you'll use for a life time. A tool so simple and powerful that you wonder how you did without it before...

Julian Hansen (website here), a 22-year-old graphic design student from Copenhagen, Denmark may have come up with one of these tools.

As he says "So You Need A Typface [is] an alternative way on how to choose fonts (or just be inspired."

Mac West Photos Featured in Grazia Magazine Plus Aditional 10ft Tall Promo Shots

A few weeks ago in the 31st May edition of Grazia Magazine I had my first nationally published photo.

In the hype for Sex And The City 2; Grazia published a whole host of articles linked to the release in any way possible - one of which was a host of micro-articles on bars in the UK which the editorial staff (or whoever) thought were the most "SATC-esque". One of these bars was 10 Feet Tall in Cardiff - one of my favourite bars in my city. As Cardiff's premier photographer for the night-life- and bar-scene their first call when they found out their bar was going to be featured was to me to ask me to take some photos... To which I gladly said "Of course!".

Below is a selection of shots of 10 Feet Tall taken in May (2010) and a scan of the article from Grazia.

Ben Beaumont-Thomas Offers Designers Some Insight Into Branding

In last month's issue of Wired (UK Edition 06.10) Ben Beaumont-Thomas wrote a great short piece on how to re-brand a company. Some snappy little hints here for designers to keep in mind when doing logo work of any kind.

Here is a little preview of the article:

An Old Flyer

It's that time of year again when sorting one's files out is not only enjoyable but has also become a necessity.

Sifting though some old work I found one of my first professional flyers done while at Thump. Check out the concept below... Also I can assure you that the iStock photo was bought and replaced before sending to printers!

The main logo I developed for the promoter is still being used by the night today. For more information on Gucci Nights check their facebook page here.
